Help with a section in Mozart PC 21
on: July 23, 2014, 11:45:43 PM
This lovely part here:

t=313

I'm actually just trying to learn this bit on it's own, for technique and because it's so beautiful.

The right hand is coming along fine, it will take some time to get it to tempo but that's just time. However the left hand is far trickier for me.

Is the fingering definitely 5-1-2-1? As opposed to 5-1-2-3 or something? It just seems a little unusual to use the first fingering but it's unavoidable because of the large leaps, for me anyway. Any advice on getting the leaps more accurate?

Music is here, page 5, bar 147.

Are you talking about the RH in 147 or the LH in 148?

In 148, the LH is definitely 5121, but I can't see how 5123 could even be possibly.

In 147 the RH is either 5432123454321234 or, if you aren't used to that or find it awkward 5321212353212123.

How about hitting the B with your left thumb that one measure? The measures following are easier shapes for the RH.
It would be interesting to watch some Youtube videos to see what choice the performers make.

Edit: Pollini crosses over 2.
Buchbinder and Perahia do too.
