Staccato in Chopin Op9 No.1
on: November 29, 2004, 08:14:26 AM
I play Chopin Nocturne Op.9 No.1 with pedal. But there were some staccato appeared in the score:

Why are there staccato if the piece is going to be played with pedal? Is there other meaning for staccato indication other then "detached note"?

Thank you.

If a staccato note is tied to another, this is an indication to rearticulate.  But staccatto in general defines the note's release - try holding the pedal and playing staccatto vs. legato playing.  Even though both are sustained, you should be able to tell a difference (though it's usually not terribly important).  By the way, the picture doesn't show.
A modern house without a flush toilet... uncanny.
