not in the obscure category as a composer, but probably as a solo piano piece, as he is often known for his large scale amazing symphonic works. this is a decidedly more intimate side to his music.

No one has mentioned Xaver Scharwenka (I do not know anything by his brother Philipp). I played his Theme and variations op 48 a number of years ago in a CCNY concert. Many of his Polish Dances, besides the well-known one. are quite enjoyable. There's a nice Nocturne.

Liszt pupils? I have a set of six Hungarian Songs by Robert Freund, photocopied courtesy of the son of his much younger half-sister Etelka Freund - SHE was a marvelous pianist! Carl Tausig - most of his compositions are super-virtuosic, as one might expect from him. His Ungarische Zigeunerweisen is a wonderful piece, though its relentless virtuosity in the last pages can be too much for the listener as well as the pianist: it was written for his Hungarian wife. I like his piano solo arrangement of the Schubert Andantino and Variations for piano duet - really beautiful especially when not played too fast so that the lovely harmonies have time to be appreciated. Also; Moriz Rosenthal. His Variations on an Original Theme - a lovely theme too! - is also in part super-virtuosic: those Liszt pupils just had to outdo their master!  Rosenthal also wrote a revised version called Ten Character Pieces. (I prefer the earlier version.) His "Papillons" is nice too.

Don't suppose you have his Nocturne and Two Impromptus as well?

I didn't even know about a Nocturne and Two Rhapsodies by Robert Freund, although I do have several other pieces by him. Interested - of course!

He had a long-time faculty appointment in Switzerland, but it seems his retirement was hastened by an affair with the wife of a wealthy donor! Then, back in Budapest, staying with his half-sister Etelka Freund (Milch) and her husband, he became a friend and mentor to a young Bela Bartok. He died in 1934, I think.

Etelka's son Nicholas (last name Milch Americanised to "Milroy") worked for the US ("intelligence"...) during the 1940-5 war. He inherited the manuscript of the Brahms Second Piano Concerto, which had been presented to Robert Freund, and this was smuggled out by Bela Bartok when he was able to come to the US. He sold it to the City of Hamburg, and we were able to study this on a visit to Hamburg two years ago.

I was hoping you did - I don't. Op 2 and 3 respectively, both published by Breitkopf & Hartel, but can't find them anywhere.   :(

It's still very much under copyright, and fortunately still in print (and reasonable priced). Available, inter alia, here and here.

You've stumped me with the Peiko (Peyko, Pejko), though.

I guess Scriabin doesn't qualify as obscure, but still, Fantaisie, Sonatas 1-2-3-4-5...
Stanchinsky- Sonata in Ebm
Glazunov- Sonata 1
Raff- Fantasie Sonata
Syzmanowski- Sonatas
Dukas- Sonata
Feinberg- Sonatas, esp. 6.
Medtner- Sonatas, esp. Night Wind, Fairy Tales
Lyapunov- Barcarolle
Respighi- Preludes on Gregorian Melodies
Lots of Thalberg.

But Thalberg is absolute and utter dreck.

Hofmann's impression no. 3 "The Sanctuary" is very beautiful and difficult
