Need tips and help.
on: August 10, 2014, 01:25:54 PM
Hi.

I've played piano a while now. I can read sheet music but can't sight read at all. I'll just memorize all the notes and then just play it by memory.

I want to learn to play songs by chords for example. I know that "Blue moon" Chord sequence/progression is Eb | Cm | Fm | Bb, but I can't play the song in cocktail/lounge style with the melody in other words I don't know how to use chords efficiently.

I really want to learn to play with chords so I can join some band. I think that bands use more chords than memorize sheet music. I just don't know where to start and what to do. I really really would appreciate some help. I think that knowing how to use chords and fully understanding them would also help sight reading (if the sheet music includes them). How can I learn to use chords well that I can join a band or something.

I really am serious about playing piano and it's not anymore for the joy. I want to take it to the next level. I would take piano classes, but I study IT engineering so I don't have the time to take classes and I don't really know any good teachers that live in Finland. I really love music and love to play piano and I will never quit playing even if i wont improve. A man can dream even if it's something impossible  ;D

Thank you for helping this poor pianist and sorry for my really bad english I hope that you understanded even some of it

I've also ordered this book for some cocktail/lounge music(for plan B if I wont learn to use chords and join a band):

You may want to order "The Real Fake Book" I think it's called. Has tons of jazz standards that help with developing chords and sense of rhythm. I know what you're asking for and it's hard for me to explain the answer to, but trust me it helps.
