Should i take a AMEB exam?
on: September 01, 2014, 10:44:52 AM
Hey guys,

I have been playing piano for about 3 years now and mainly focused on video game themes. Some of my friends also play piano and said that Im not too bad and suggested that i do one of AMEB's Exams. If you guys could watch a video or two on my youtube channel and tell me if i am any good that would be great. Any information you might know about AMEB exams would also be much appreciated.

Being a piano teacher, I'm going to say this... I don't know if you'd be ready for AMEB exams. The one focus that I teach my students when doing AMEB exams, is that they need to be able to read music. I for one suspect that some of your performances may be based upon either learning by ear, or possibly Synthesia??? Is this true???

The ability to ready well will serve you well if you wish to do the AMEB exams, however you seem very physically capable of starting with Grade 3 or (maybe) Grade 4 AMEB.

That's just on a cursory glance. Any thoughts?

PS. One quick question - why is your piano shaking/wobbling in your Sonic the Hedgehog video??? That's strange!

yeah some of my friends also said i should learn how to read music better, i have just never had any piano lessons (i probably should). And yes i do use synthesia! very nice observation! however i do also use sheet music, as sometimes its hard to find the right MIDI file.

Yeah one of my friends has her Grade 4 AMEB and i swear the stuff she plays doesnt seem to difficult, just from looking at her play. but then again i think the AMEB exams are a mixture of theory and practical, i think i could possibly succeed in the playing side of it but fail hard in the theory.

And my piano has small wheels on the bottom of it and its on floor boards so when i play it wobbles slightly. im still in the process of fixing that!

Thank you for your opinions/help i do appreciate them
