Hand Anti-Perspirant
on: September 02, 2014, 07:43:26 PM
Are there any recommended anti-perspirants for sweaty palms/fingers? Unfortunately, all the ones I could find were armpits only.
Thanks!

If they're fine on the sensitive armpit skin- why wouldn't they also be fine on a hand?

^thanks for the link visitor! Just a question though: will the antiperspirant impact your playing in any negative way? like will it affect your touch, etc.

What's the worst that could happen? I've done it before and noticed no issues.

The skin on the hands can have allergic reactions that are caused by different things than skin allergies elsewhere on the body. So, it is relatively rare, but possible, that an antiperspirant that one can use quite safely elsewhere could cause an allergic reaction causing one of the various forms of dermatitis. Symptoms range from mild to quite nasty and can last for quite some time (weeks).

For what it's worth, in relation to j_menz's comment, I've never been able to use any kind of lotion or cosmetic or antiperspirant -- even soaps with lotions in them -- on my hands without problems (cracking and sometimes bleeding; messes up the keys).  Except one: plain talcum powder (no fragrance, no nothing.  Plain unadulterated talcum powder).

Interesting. It would be easy to put a dab on and check though (as they recommend with virtually all skin products anyway). The percentages must be very low.

Good advice.  And I dare say the problem is confined to a very small percentage -- I've never hit anyone else with my particular level of sensitivity, anyway.

What about this stuff?

I've never tried it.  I thought about it though.  Same idea, for the hands.

It is customary for the manufacturers to add all kinds of warnings on their products simply to be protected against legal consequences. Allergic reactions can occur to practically anything. If you don't have any allergies and never had any reactions for anything, it should be safe to use on your hands what you can use elsewhere on your body. If it is the best solution to the problem is another matter.

Baby powder?

Smells. Not manly at all.  That's why I wanted to see what the monkey butt powder was.

You need to be evaluated by your physician for a possible medical condition, such as palmar hyperhidrosis.  This can be treated successfully with either medications or surgery.

How about a fan and a dehumidifier?
