Does anyone play this?
on: September 08, 2014, 01:42:38 AM
In Rachmaninoff 3rd Concerto, does anyone know of a recording/video in which the ossia is played at 7:55-8:00?
Thanks,
Alex

Well, Alexander Toradze tried playing that a year ago in concert, but he didn't quite manage, didn't come off well. Haven't heard of anyone else doing that particular ossia, but Toradze has a very weird idea: "Once you're in ossia territory, you do all of the ossias". I don't know the logic behind his reasoning, but that's what he told me.

That does pretty sound like a pretty weird idea, and since he didn't pull it off well, maybe he should reconsider entering "ossia territory" :)

There are indeed some things mr. Toradze might want to reconsider, pianistically :)

Yes, my teacher told me about him. He said that when Steinway gets their pianos back from Toradze after he uses them for a concert/event that the piano is in bad shape. Personally, I feel his playing is sometimes ugly. How about you?

Well, I kind of know him a bit personally, so I won't say much more in a public thread :)

I distinctly recall Kissin recording that version for RCA (1993).

What about the ossia right at the very end that has 8th notes instead of triplet quarters?
