Love of the piano will keep you warm.

That and a portable space heater.

I think I tried once or twice... How the heck can you play with gloves on?  I remember trying finger-tip-less gloves before.  It's the material inbetween the fingers that messed me up.

Aren't your pipes going to freeze?

Yeah, you also ask for a break on the rent for putting up with no heat when it's turning to winter.  The landlord (or slumlord) should provide you with space heaters.

Nobody's going to find 42 degrees acceptable.  I'd take pics of the thermostat and document everything.  That's freaking nuts.

Or if they can't provide heat, the landlord should set you up with a hotel room.  See what your lease says.

In this day and age indeed we need to pick our words carefully. After watching your "cool" performance (nice job btw) now my youtube is proposing anything from plumbing championships videos to exploding propane tanks etc (I guess this is from the word broken)... :o

It still sound like the landlord might be taking advantage of you here.  If you don't complain to them or some kind of apartment association, you end up rewarding them for this behavior.  And they're probably doing the same thing to other tenants.

Possible fix -- Move somewhere else after the lease is up.  That would get their attention.

yeah i know, it's complicated because the landlord is a friend of mine.  i'm not staying here for that long so it's not a big deal to me.

Friends take care of each other.
And also there is no harm in telling a friend the truth.

Just prorate the down a bit yourself then.  After all, it's your friend.  Haha.

Or buy a space heater and take that out of the rent for the month.  Leave your friend the space heater.  If there's no contract, there's nothing either side can do in cases like that.
