First of all, what happenned to Volodos?
He seems to have disappeared from the concert scene.

I think he brings a lot of excitement to piano recitals - similar to Jon Kimura Parker.

I hope Parker's recitals are more of an excitement than his Emperor Concerto that I recently saw. Yawn!

Sorry to hear that you had a bad experience with Parker.  Perhaps he had a bad day.  He is usually a lot of fun to watch.  I watched him perform Rachmaninov and Prokofiev concertos and they were electrifying.

hi Alde. Well,he is performing. We hasn´t dissappear. I´ve heard him in Concertgebow Amsterdam 3 o 4 weeks ago. He played gorgeous. Wonderful Beethoven, very personal and full of fire. Also he palyed Scriabin. Astonishing performance of a wild animal with refinated details.
great arrangement of Czerny etude at the end of the concert as encore.
Wonderful!

i think he is both! not many pianists can do that, but he can. i mean, his alla turca or his bumblebee is definitely circus, but his transcriptions after rachmaninov or his rachmaninov 3rd are definitely work of a true musician. imho.

A couple of us in here are working on his piano transcription of Rach's cello sonata.  Very beautiful but very, very difficult.  He is an impressive musician.  You can here him perform it on his Rach 3 CD that he did with Levine.

Has Volodos made a transcription of the bumblebee? Or are you referring to Cziffra's?

Volodos' Rondo alla turca, in my humble opinion, is indeed entertaining. Other than that, it is rather trite.

Volodos as a pianist I like, because his performances give vivid imagery.

i ment cziffra's transcription - i never heard about volodos having one.

as for the rest, i agree. and i must add, probably the most impressive thing about volodos (at least for me) is that he IS exactly what he says: he said that playing piano is a very simple thing and that it's all a matter of imagination. and that's exactly how he plays. (imho)

I am currently studying with Galina Egyazarova, Volodos' last piano teacher before he hit the concert scene. He studied in this school for 3 years. He is a musical genius, full of imagination. I think he is one of the few musicians who can succesfully span all extremes of musicality, from the showmanship extreme to the genius. You cant listen to him play Beethoven op. 110 or Brahms op. 117 and still think he is just a showman. The library here is full of recordings of his in-school recitals and they are astonishing.

Out of curiousity, what school is this?

Escuela Superior de Musica Reina Sofia, in Madrid. The piano teachers are Dimitri Bashkirov and Galina Egyazarova.

I like his Rach 3 and the vid of his Liszt-Horowitz Rakoczy March. I used to listen to his transcriptions cd quite a bit but i'm sick of it at the moment

Galina is a genius, but she is a VERY tough teacher, there is virtually no way to satisfy her unless youre Volodos or Radu Lupu (her most famous students so far). Laia is still studying here, and so are Enrique and Pablo. I dont know the others, since its my first year here.

Volodos played in Singapore last Friday night to a very appreciative audience.

After the performance, the audience would not stop applauding and leave the hall. He played five encores and the concert did not finish until almost 11:30pm.

A member of my family who was in the audience, said that one of Volodos' great strengths was his ability to balance the silences with the sounds in everything he played.

it saddens me that pianists of the calibre of Volodos and Berezovsky play in Singapore but not in Australia

Why do you think that is?  Not enough demand?  The distance?

i really don't know. The distance shouldn't be a problem, if they're willing to fly all the way to singapore why not Australia? i don't think demand is a problem either. Both of those performers would perform to a packed house here. I can't see why they couldn't have at least come to Sydney and played at the town hall or the opera house. Stephen Hough recently toured and played many small towns (unfortunately he didn't come to Canberra). I have heard that Hamelin is performing concerts in NZ next yr so hopefully he'll also give some concerts in Australia

Volodos is superd. I think his Rach 3 recording is second only to Argerich's (my favourite pianist). Unfotunately, he drinks heavily and his cancellations are due to ill health (I was a victim at the RFH, when he cancelled Rach 3 last month and we had to sit ther for 45 bloody minuted listening to the simply awful interpretation of Mr Freddie Kempf.........I hope that Volodos recovers soon! He's destined to become one of the best!

fernandito, ezigarova doesnt teach in spain, she teaches in the moscow conservatory, therefore you are a lying. and even if you do study with her that doesnt make you a good pianist. So save your lies for someone who cares.
