Wow! I didn't know about these transcriptions. They seem interesting enough to try some of them. Thank you very much for the idea. But I think I will get a WTC and try to start to play some of the easier preludes and fugues (I love Bach...
) Just another question: What edition would you recommend me? Henle? Bärenreiter? Wiener? Another one? Thanks in advance.
P.S. Excuse me if i made some mistakes, as English is not my mother language.
the transcription literature is vast and Bach is well represented and a lot of it is quite good (there's some stinkers out there too!). worth exploring, that's for sure (especially Kabalevsky-Bach, that's really good stuff).
editions, the three you mention are the top and standard I would suppose. I actually really like the orange weiner urtext. I think barenreiter is beautifully done, but pricey (and no big up tik in quality and content i can see over the henle and Vienna weiner). if i were going to buy both WTC (might as well vs just one vol) and the funds are there, go for the Henle, but get the hard cover cloth bound ones, those are heirloom quality type books that hold up REALLY well over time. I do not know if they make a cloth single bound vol i and ii or if you would need to get both. worth it though imho.
good luck!
