Old Pianos - Help identify my old piano please
on: December 23, 2014, 12:40:25 AM
Hi all,
I have an old piano Wilh.Bohm BERLIN
Can anyone tell me how old this piano might be?
It sounds great...the only problem is i recently had an inexperienced tuner at my house who tried to pitch shift to concert pitch and after raising middle C told me it could not be tuned with the tuning tool he brought with him. I have since contacted an expert tuner who is coming next week....much more expensive but understood right away that we are not looking for concert pitch. It sounded fine before the inexperienced guy messed with the middle C and just left. there were only one or two notes that were slightly out at the high end...anyway has anyone heard of this piano maker and can give me an idea of how old the piano may be?

No Wilh Bohm listed but there is W. Böhme in Berlin from 1836-1877.
From what was posted about the tuner, I would think this one has the oblong tuning pins, so it would be an early one.
The serial number will be inside and so will a signature and date on the back of one of the action rails. The action would have to be removed to see that.

If you think it's is expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur.
