Moszkowski - Étude op. 72 #9
on: December 26, 2014, 01:34:33 AM
Hi guys! Today I'm sharing a little bit of octaves work. This is the Étude by Moszkowski where he works on this piano formula, combining up the wrist octaves so well-known in the pianoforte with those arm octaves that Liszt introduced into our dear instrument.

It's a good exemple of the valuable collection of Études by Moszkowski called "Per aspera ad astra", whose translation would be "through the hard path to the stars"

Enjoy it!!  ;)

It's impressive. Not much I can say, but a few suggestions: try to keep the triplet feeling going throughout, there were a few small breakdowns (to be fair, I think they coincided with the harder points of the etude). The piano sound itself isn't great, but I think that's the recording rather than you. In the long repeated note octave sections (e.g. the start, and the Cs later on over the ascending bass figures) I would experiment with 545 454 top note in the right hand: for me I generally find it helps with tension and often results in a better sound. I certainly think the opening octaves could be lighter without losing speed. Your surges of cresc./dim. worked well. Good playing!

Thanks a lot, ronde_des_sylphes!!

Yes, I'll take your suggestions into consideration because I really agree with you. For the next retake i'll try to keep the pattern of the triplet throughout, now I listen to it at home I also think I should have been a little bit more strict on it!

Thanks again!!  ;)

It's nice playing, and you seem to have it quite under control.
What I miss is the sense of melody and phrasing. I have the feeling that your notes are a little bit too short. So maybe you shouldn't leave the keys so quickly?

Try to only play the top of the two hands, and make it as musical as possible.

The danger with pieces like this is to forget that it's music, and focus too much on the technical part.
The technical part is more or less solved, but the music is still in need of some work.
