Fugue Recital
on: January 11, 2015, 10:33:34 PM
Hi,
I'm preparing a short recital (15 minutes) of fugues.
So far I have this:
Bach - WTC 1 in C minor
Chopin - Fugue in A minor
Shostakovich - Op 87 in D major

Do you have any suggestions for others by different composers - I would like some variety? I have looked at classical composers so I have a decent spread of fugues from different periods.

Any ideas?

Look through the list here.

Mozart has a fairly unknown prelude and fugue. The fugue is pretty Bachian though:

Scriabin wrote one as a student.

Also David Diamond's piano sonar no 1 dedicated to First Lady of Bach. Rosalyn Turek, the third mov is a big double fugue w a coda. That would be pretty dope .  But it's 7 minutes long so it might put you over on time...

Kapustin wrote 24 Preludes and Fugues (Op. 82). These were composed in 1997 and Kapustin is a pretty fun composer! Might be a good way to finish.

Hope that helps and all the best! :)

More Shosty!!!
Also, kudos for doing the Chopin fugue. Perhaps post a recording when you're done? I've only ever heard it once and don't own a recording of it so it would be fun.
