Replacing all posts with a full stop etc

Why do some users replace all posts with a full stop etc.? I read the forums a lot and there are some great posts with lots of valuable advice that have now been erased by the poster - it feels somewhat unfortunate to me as I'm sure other people would find this information helpful.

Yes, I believe so - having said which I think that the practice is rather dotty myself...

I certainly agree.

I'd also add that's one of the greatest things of this forum: the right to really own your posts and have the freedom to do with them whatever you want, even converting into a dot and editing every time you want (I've also dotted some whose reasons are only mine, as theirs are the reasons why other members did with their posts. Forum owner, please, never quit this ability).

I believe the m1469 imploded.  People leave once in a while, but the amount of work involved in going back and editing every post like that...    That involves work and planning.  It's not just getting ticked off and deleting one thing.

Insofar as I might be thought to have been trying to make one, it would be that typing posts - especially lots of them - and then deleting all their text and replacing it with full stops (as at least one member here has done) seems a rather - er - pointless exercise, if I may say so...

Yes, you did! The practice of deliberately misquoting other members' posts does you no favours and is perfectly clear in that the original post (together, in this particular instance, with j_menz's correct quotation thereof) remains intact. Perhaps the most charitable interpretation of your indulgence in such a practice is that you have some kind of blind spot.
