Handel Catalogue
on: January 26, 2015, 07:06:55 AM
The catalogue of Handel's music on Piano Street has a system of "G" reference numbers, rather than the widely used HVW numbers, e.g. "Fugue (G 17) in A minor".  Any thoughts on where this index comes from, and what the relationship between G and HWV numbers are?

G is actually HG and refers to the Händel-Gesellschaft catalogue. It is the earliest, and least complete of the three standard cataloguing schemes (the Hallische Händel-Ausgabe (HHA), and the latest Händel-Werke-Verzeichnis (HWV)).

They three systems are not logically relatable.
