Serial Number of the first K. Kawai GM-1
on: February 07, 2015, 07:04:46 AM
Does anyone know what the FIRST production K Kawai (JAPAN) GM-1's Serial Number is?

I know this (4' 9" Baby Grand) piano's first production year was in 1992 and according to many references, a 1992 K Kawai (Japan Produced Piano) will have a serial number somewhere between 2050000 and 2099999.  According to the Kawai Representative in the U.S., each piano is assigned a serial number based on when it enters the production line...hence you could have sequential serial numbers of some piano models (groups of sequential serial numbers) and other models can have notable serial number differences between the same model piano.

It is also rumored that the 205xxxx serial numbered GM-1's got special attention during their production.  That Kawai wanted these entry-level Baby Grand Pianos to stand out in piano showrooms when released.  Several claimed these pianos have distinctive tonal qualities and key response differences....that you could hear and feel the differences in a 205xxxx and a 206xxxx when compared side by side (1992).  The Kawai Representative in the U.S. could not confirm whether there were any production difference between the 205xxxx and the 206xxxx serial numbered GM-1s of 1992.

Are there any differences between the 205xxxx and 206xxxx serial numbered K Kawai GM-1s?

If so, what are they?

Is there a K Kawai GM-1 Expert out there who can answer these questions or provide direction?

Thanks in advance for your help :)
