What causes fatigue? Physical and mental?

I'm thinking more fatigue of the mind. But both are interesting.

Repetition or prolonged involvement in activities linked to either bodily aspect.

For example, I've been studying (or maybe it's cramming) for the past six hours, and boy, can I tell you, I'm exhausted!
