suggest a Sonata? for pedagogical purposes
on: March 02, 2015, 04:30:41 AM
I'm getting back into playing. It was suggested that I select a Sonata, either Haydn, Mozart, or early Beethoven (vol. 1) as being particularly valuable for getting back into practice and for technique. I'm trying to select one that is particularly interesting and beautiful as well good for me as a student.
I'm going through them, but would really appreciate help in making a selection! Not one of the most difficult. Thank you.

Personally, i would forget the composers you mention and play Clementi.

I agree with Thal ... Clementi may be good for you. Try the f-sharp minor Op. 25 #2 sonata ... this will provide you with the opportunity to work on a variety of technical skills through out the sonata.

+1. I would also suggest not remembering them after Clementi for a while so you can enjoy Dussek

Listen to everything with a score, easy to do with imslp+youtube and probably a very enjoyabe thing to do.
Above suggestions are probably ok. If you want generic suggestions, try Op.10/1 or the f minor beethoven sonata. Mozart k332 or anything else that sounds good to you.
