Piano transcription of Bach's Air in D
on: March 07, 2015, 11:52:44 PM
Does anyone know if the transcription of Bach's Air in D that Gulda played on youtube is available on sheet music? The URL is
.
Was it his own? It is not Siloti's, nor is it Galya's. Not sure how many are out there ... Thanks!

It's probably his own, and doesn't appear to have been published.
There are squillions of transcriptions of this out there, most fairly pedestrian. Besides the Siloti, Joachim Raff and Giuseppe Martucci both did notable versions (Both on IMSLP) as part of the whole suite. Cyprien Katsaris's version is also well worth a look (just the Air - published by Schott and in print as part of their Virtuoso Piano Transcription series),
There's an extensive list of them on
Bach-Cantatas
(scroll down to BWV 1068).

I wanted to learn this last year and found dozens of transcriptions. I didn't know about the squillions of transcriptions, or the extensive list j_menz mentioned, but I finally decided on the Peters edition transcribed by Thomas Arnold Johnson. Send me a private message if you'd like a copy of the sheet music.
