Suggestions pedals Ballade no. 2 Chopin
on: March 12, 2015, 02:39:15 PM
I seriously need an advice. In 2 weeks I will have an important piano competition and I am annoyed about the pedals in this piece on the first page. I think it sound better to put the pedal on the repeated notes and acords on the first page, it sounds warmer. My teacher keeps insisting to use the pedal like in the partiture. I don't know what should I do... I attached a photo and that's the way I want to put the pedals. Is it ok? Any advice would be helpful. :)

you mean change the pedal on the repeated notes? The editions are sort of vague on what they mean, depending on how you look at it. In that case, it appears to indicate changing the pedal in between the notes before the beat (or maybe lifting?) which is what your teacher means, since they say do what the book says. But i'm not clear on what he says since the book isnt clear. Maybe explain differently?
Beethoven-Alkan, concerto 3
Faure barcarolle 10
Mozart-Stradal, symphony 40

Sorry, I may not explained well, english is not my first language...I want to change the pedals, my  teacher wants to play exactly like in the partiture, lifting the pedal before the minor third, but for me it's a difficult to play legato the repeated notes without pedal, that's why I prefer using it, but my teacher doesn't agree. The red modification is the way I want to use the pedal, but I don't know if it's correct to play like this.
