There was a moment when it sounded like Liszt's transcription of Schubert's Erlkönig ;).

I wasn't able to access the mp3 but all humour is appreciated.

Here is a highly communicative recording.  I play it like that in some ways.  One sometimes can "forget" that the pianist in this live performance of the Moonlight Sonata stopped touring in 1899.

Okay, I finally did get it to work [you know, us persons who grew up without internet can have issues] and it is indeed quite humorous.  You could create a whole series of these.

Michael….  such emotional extremes….  not sure how the term rubato can applies here :)….. surely, the comic (even hysterical) element, a la Victor Borga,  or bugs bunny, can't be far away….  I certainly would believe you if you said these were 'sincere' renderings that you have posted….. but i can't help wondering if you are doing (really) a bit of performance art…..  I think it can be seen as actually 'working' in that context..  ….  However, our tastes, are all so different… (though you may be a vaudevillian at heart….  Us curious minds may never know…)  I apologize, if you are offended by my words…
Cheers.

I am one of the most easy going persons you ever could meet - the tragedies of life eventually pave out a smooth road of beneficence, and there can be other sources.  Maybe we can look at it this way: I have one or two friends who listen to music which (in my opinion) is total garbage, and maybe you have such friends, too, but it doesn't prevent friendship.  Philosophically part of friendship is accepting other persons' differences and limitations (whether real or only perceived).  I can't think of why the internet world should be any different.

Unlike you young persons, I need to call it a night here in Sweden.

I still can't believe I missed the massive Aurora Borealis several nights ago stretching all the way through Stockholm county . . .

Finally a version of this cr**** piece that I found interesting... But I'm afraid your Michael Sayers edition didn't sound quite like MS it was much better.

Could you MS some Mozart as well, maybe I could finally get into his music? :)

Sorry but I can't compete with Glenn Gould on making a joke out of Mozart:

LOL...  the quality of the recording and instrument is far too good to be considered MS.   I gotta say liszt1022--that was beautifully executed... great job of making us all laugh without saying a word..

oddly enough... you have had all positive responses after posting a rendition so different from the intentions of the composer?   :o

It is a superb parody.  I wish the o.p. would do more of these.

Hopefully one of our resident composers will now write a piece called "A la manière de M.S."  ;D

Maybe it can mandate that the performer include at least a few wrong notes?  In almost all of the recordings it happens.  Even in the Liszt Resignazione - a composition where piano technique is minimized - a wrong note is lurking, in a subordinate voice and well covered, but it is there, which is ridiculous in my opinion.

Anyone else is welcome to make a parody recording too, all you do is disregard tempo, dynamics, and add octaves.

There should be a foreword stating that the piece it MUST be played on and old, rickety and out of tune piano, at roughly half the speed prescribed. And obviously NOT as written. There's at least one pianist here who can do that  ;)
