Liebestraume #3
on: March 31, 2015, 06:32:43 PM

I played piano through high school, and now after a over a decade off have started taking lessons again the past 5 months.  Just finished Pathetique (1st and second movements) and Rachmaninoff prelude in C#.  Currently working on Rachmaninoff prelude in G minor the last month and its definitely the hardest piece I've ever attempted to learn but I absolutely love the piece and am making progress.

Looking to add a second piece to work on concurrently, and thinking about Liebestraume #3 (I know I'm mentioning a sampling of some of the most overplayed pieces, but I'm 30 now and playing strictly for my own enjoyment so I want to play what I like).  How does the difficulty of this compare to G minor?  Would it be too hard to try and learn both of these at the same time?  I pretty weak at reading music, relying way too much on my ear (I do memorize very quickly) so pieces where the music is very dense and difficult to read tend to be relatively more difficult for me.  Think I will be able to learn this?

Thanks!

Perhaps, but the best way to find out is to actually play it.
It would also good to find a teacher who does things that purely you enjoy, as they can help you technically and musically.
