When Practice Stagnates – Breaking the Performance Ceiling: Robotic Training for Pianists

“Practice makes perfect” is a common mantra for any pianist, but we all know it’s an oversimplification. While practice often leads to improvement, true perfection is elusive. Sensory memory, working memory (the 7-9 items), and then long term/"permanent."

What about knowing what you need to do today or this week?  What's that type of memory called?  Working memory is in the present, right now.  Long term memory is more permanent and... long term.  So this must be short term memory?  Stuff I'm doing today.  Stuff I want to get done this week.  Stuff I need to remember for roughly the next week and then it's not important.

Short term I guess, but that sounds pretty vague -- a few minutes to a few days?

Actually you will need several types of memory at the same time to perform tasks and to remember what you need to do this week. Cannot isolate them in such context.

What about knowing what you need to do today or this week?

I call it a diary, a to do list, a note on the fridge, or an occasion for an apology.
