Symphonic Poem for Piano - Own Composition
on: April 15, 2015, 08:52:10 PM
Hi.

Here's my latest composition. I'm posting it because would be nice to hear some feedback of it.
Recording is from concert situation and I haven't played that long, so don't mind the few mistakes or clumsiness.

My piano teacher said, when we were thinking proper name for the composition that the piece has something in it which reminds of Franz Liszt. The name is a mark of respect to one of my absolute favorite piano composers throughout the history.

As you can hear the theme of the piece is based on appoggiatura -form.

Here's the link to hear it:

I'm aware that the title might be misleading but it origins only from admire to Liszt. The piece has pretty much nothing else to do with symphonic poem and I would rather describe it as absolute music. I have some other compositions which includes ''a story'' or scenery, but I don't have recordings of them (at least yet). Giving a name to a title is somewhat irrelevant for me because what matters is the music. And I'm not anyway a professional composer or pianist. Composing is for me a new area of expressing myself and search my abilities.

Hi Kalle,

I think you are talented at composing.  I do hear the Liszt in there, but I also can hear YOU as well and this is the most important thing, in my opinion.  Composition is both about the music and the notation - not only the music and its performance.  If you have a score to email I may be able to privately provide some constructive criticism.  I can't really do this effectively counting up measure numbers in my head while listening (and what if a time signature has been misnotated?).

I can't guarantee a reply to the score because I am overloaded . . . or at least I can't guarantee a swift reply . . . but an eventual reply is likely.

A score gives something concrete for reference.

If you want it and other works engraved, I can set you on the path for that but I won't be able to engrave them myself (though I do know many Finale tricks, and as well much of such solutions are online).

Email through my website and maybe we can sort some of these things out.
