Another moonlight sonata post...
on: April 18, 2015, 05:23:22 AM
I'm working on beethoven's moonlight sonata(all three movements)

I am doing fine in the first movements, however I would like some fingering suggestions on the second movements to connect the places that you need to connect it.

I REALLY need help with the third movement, mainly in the following places  :-[

EXPOSITION
M 9-11 my right hand is not evenly hitting the pinky notes
M 13 should I use 51515151 or is there a better way?
M 17-20 my fingers are slipping a lot
M 23 cannot move my fingers as fast as needed
M 30,32 my trills are TERRIBLE. Especially when with the left hand
M 36 my fingers woudnt let me play the left hand and trill at the same time... Not independent enough?
M 56-64 left hand gets a bit sore after playing this part. Especially loud, even when I am relaxed

REPEAT

DEVELOPMENT
M 76-83 my right hand just cannot play those well, similar to how some can't do fast 45 trills. They don't go fast enoguh
M 84-85 my index finger keeps on hitting A# in second half of 84. I don't hit the F# the second time in 85 after the 165) note G# chords
M 87 my 45 RH fingering gets messed up my left hand
M 88-91 trouble connecting notes
M 94 trouble switching the chords

RECAP
Same problems as exposition.  Just in different key. With these changes:
Nonexistent M 17-20
M 144-147 my right hand is missing the note in the middle when ascending the staccato parts.

CODA
M 168-170 right hand still not working fast enough
M 178-185 16th notes going up are slipping lots
M 182-183 fingering problems, not moving fast enough going up still
M 186-187 chromatic scale I'm using fingerlings(from G#) 1234 12345 1234 123 12345 1234 123 etc. for faster runs, they're not smooth even after I did rhythm excersises
M 197 grace notes not connecting, left hand takes too long to shift from chord to arpeggio position, arpeggios not clean.

any tips on any of these are greatly welcome.
 Thanks in advance!

Ambition is a good trait for a piano student. But this one is not something you can do without working up to it. Most of your problems would be helped with a good study of wrist rotation - but there are many other aspects of piano technique! If you find a piano teacher, he or she can set you on a path to your goals, but nobody here can tell you exactly how to play such a difficult piece in a few forum posts.

No further replies :(

Anyways,
She said that I wasn't technically ready for this peice(but we are still working on it) She also told me to work on the following things:
Bringing out melody. Esoecially the melodic theme at measure 21 etc
We also worked on making the left hand on that part as quiet as possible. And I did not play it evenly. She told me to do rhythm excersises
We worked on fingering so in measure 33. That is all we had time for

Also we started to work on hanon 's 60 excersises.

Your teacher is most likely correct. Do as she says is really the best advice you can get, since she is there every week to hear your progress.

As of the moment I am still working on mastering the notes. So I don't think i should really work on the other stuff yet... But I guess I should since I'm not getting where with the notes... I also just realized that I don't do much dynamics/ articulation(in general just not musical enough)
Any tips on how to accomplish that? By that I mean making notes even, super quiet and and fast at the same time

Hmmmm.... I think 151415 on M15 is even more difficult than 151515... I try moving my hand up and down to reach the keys easier, it seems to work
For m 11-14 I do 15151515253515352545352515151... That usually works for me...
