ARCT Piano Examination Program
on: April 19, 2015, 04:52:35 AM
Hi everyone!

This is my first post and I am hoping to start my ARCT (RCM) repertoire soon. It is equivalent to the Dip. ABRSM if you need a reference.

The following is what I am planning to learn for the exam:

List A: Prelude & Fugue in F Major, BMV 880 WTC Bk. 2 (Bach)
List B: Sonata in A Major, K331 (Mozart)
List C: Drei Klavierstucke, D946 no. 1 (Schubert)
List D: Preludes 1, no. 10 La Cathédrale Engloutie (Debussy)
List E: 24 Preludes, op. 38 no. 16 & 22 (Kabalevsky)
List F: Étude, op. 25 no. 12 Ocean (Chopin)

Could you give me an idea of if the program is balanced and if any pieces are incredibly overplayed?

My current repertoire includes Sonata no. 9 by Beethoven, Moment Musical no. 2 by Schubert, and Etude-Tableaux no. 7 in G minor by Rachmaninoff to give you a general idea of where I am at currently.

Am I ready to start working on this new set of repertoire?

Thank you in advance,

Ben

The Debussy is frequently played.  Otherwise, to me it seems like a good program.  Have you considered any of the other Debussy Preludes?
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

Hello,

Sorry for not having followed up with this in a while! I have been preparing for my Grade 10 Practical. Seeing as I have just passed and am moving on to work on the ARCT, I really need to finalize my program.

I am considering "Silver and Shadow" by Patrick Cardy for a List E. It is quite an obscure piece and requires a sostenuto pedal and unimpeded access to the piano strings which may prove difficult.

If anyone has any other comments on the program or suggestions for repertoire that would be much appreciated!

Kind regards,

Benjamin
