Born Again Student
on: December 13, 2004, 07:59:21 PM
Hello,
Background: I've justed recently renewed my interest in piano. I'm in my 30's and I played a bit as a child. I took two piano courses in college and I used to practice a good deal. I can read music and have a basic understanding of theory (e.g. circle of 5ths).
I purchased a Yamaha PF-500 last week and I've been going through eMedia's Method along with Hanon exercises (my last instructor used to assign them). After reading a number of the posts here (especially by Bernhard and xvimbi), I've realized that my plan of attack may not yeild the results I desire. I desire to increase my repertoire of songs, play more easily, and learn jazz and blues improvisation for jamming with friends.
Question: Can anyone point me in the direction of a great instuctor in the Denver Metro Area? Has anyone heard of the Forte Academy of music? I'm considering taking lessons there. Any feedback (positive or negative). Money is not as big of a concern as time is to me. In other words, I don't have the time to enroll in college coursework right now, but I don't mind paying a bit more for a great instructor.
Thanks for any feedback. Also, thanks to all for the vast amount of information that has been contributed to this site.

I can't help you with a teacher, but wanted to congratulate you on your renewed interest in the piano. Same thing happened to me a year ago after 25 years away from it!
