Anyone read Machiavelli's The Prince?
on: May 18, 2015, 11:26:09 AM
I found a comic book version.   Flipped through it.

I'm seeing ideas relevant to teaching -- Dealing with parents, student, community... Dealing with transforming a crappy music program....

It's not that long. Really. And rather interesting.

Read more of him. Though you probably should skip Mandragola.

Interesting...

If j_menz is a future me, then he's already read Mandragola.
My first reaction was to look at that more.
He's telling me not to read it, but if he's me, then he knows I'll read it.
Not actually reading it would create a paradox, assuming j_menz has actually read it.
j_menz would know this, but still suggested not reading it... So he must be trying to get it moved to the front of the line for reading order.

Or, j_menz has never it, and I'll never actually get around to reading it.  Thus, no paradox.

Glancing at The Prince more, it looks a bit like a guide for working with people.  That's more of what I'm seeing.

It's required reading, or used to be.

Some people detect that it is parody along the lines of the Onion; others take it at face value.

Required reading?  I could see parents flipping out about that.  They flip out about swear words in a book.  This is flat out saying to kill someone if they're getting in the way.

*Bob makes note of timothy42b's location.*  Hm....
