Dream song?
on: June 01, 2015, 01:46:41 AM
I was wondering if it would be possible to be able to play the song Polonaise in A flat major op. 53 my senior year. I have just finished freshman year and this is my favorite piano song. I know this is a very difficult song and was wondering if this was in my reach. I can currently play songs like Arietta op. 43 no. 7 and would consider myself an intermediate pianist.

Hmmm... Personally I am not an expert on this type of stuff and have made many mistakes regarding practicing peices out of my level. But I will shares hat I know
I would THINK it depends on how long you've played the piano, how much you practice etc.
Everyone grows At a  different pace because, let's face it   ???, some people are just more gifted in this than others.
Just one thing though...
NEVER PLAY ANYTHING IF YOUR NOT PREPARED FOR IT.
You will, like me, regret it in time...

Depends if you can learn to include composer names as well in your question. The Polonaise is probably recognisable to most people as Chopin, but the Gliere is hardly standard repertoire (lovely piece (cough! - note terminology) though).

What are you planning on doing in the interim? Lessons? Practice? Or just hoping?

In three years time (assuming the end of senior year, two years if you want to start it the beginning of senior year), you may or may not make all the progress you need.
You could start by, as J said, adding the composers names  ::) You could also identify the technical elements that are in the polonaise that you have trouble with.
If you can't recognize them, you're a long way away.

Hi Tebsj79,

Maybe you can spend some time working on the passages which for you are the most challenging, and then make a decision?

And in the interim I plan on continuing lessons and practice to become a better pianist.
