Sibelius' late piano music
on: December 15, 2004, 10:44:41 AM
I'm currently looking for scores of Sibelius' late piano works, i.e. those pieces written after the Sonatinas and Rondinos, and especially the pieces opp.75, 76, 85, 92, 97, 99, 101 and 103. They are all published, buy one has to buy each piece separately, which when they're in sets of sometimes 8, at 6 GB pounds each, I can't afford them.

Secondly, does anyone play this music? I've played the Esquisses op.114 several times, including in Finland, which admittedly made me slightly nervous. This very fine collection of pieces is his penultimate opus number, apparently written after even the 7th Symphony, Tapiola and the Tempest. I have a series of two concerts next year in London of Finnish piano music and, yes, I'm starting with Sibelius.

Any ideas about the scores? I know there are some sites which contain scores but I've never found them.

Did you ever find those Sibelius scores anyplace affordably?  Your posting is quiet a while ago, but I too am now looking for Opus 75 for example.  But for entirely different reasons than what you mentioned in your old posting.  Leif Ove Andsnes recorded some or all on Sony Classical 88985408502, I am not sure when.  Been hearing some of those on Dutch classical radio. I have a thing with trees and wood, which might make an interesting "theme."  But yes the cost per piece is high, although I have yet to price each at the typical professional score venues.  Greetings from The Netherlands.

Oh, I didn't know that. Sometimes copyright really sucks...

Well she's kind of right but you can literally still download them for free. IMSLP simply states they're not responsible for anything you do with their files, especially if they're not public domain in your country.

Here i just did it.
