What would be the proper fingering for this?
on: June 01, 2015, 06:38:51 AM
Hi guys. I am learning piano by myself, and I have a question now.
I have asked a few friends of mine, and I am getting different answers.

So my question is what would be the proper fingering for this bar of notes (left hand)?

(They're on the bass clef of a E major key.)

|| A2 E3 C#4 A2 E3 B3 E4 E3 ||    (I have attached an image to try to make it easier to follow.)

5315 5315 ?
5315 3215 ?
5315 1215 ?

I am so confused. Could anyone please help? Thanks in advance.

I'd personally do 3215. 1215 is definitely awkward with the cross over. 5315 loses your legato.

Thanks for your opinion!

So you would do 5315 321 for this one?

Yep! If the note after the E is a 4th interval down on the B again, I know some people who would do 5315 212. There really is no predefined fingering as long as you can play the piece as you conceive it to sound, then it should be fine.

What is the musical context for that figuration?

Not going to claim to be any sort of expert, but that seems appears to be a fairly typical new age piano left hand, in which case if I was playing it, I would do 5215 5215.

5215- 5215 may'be depends on the tempo.. and if it needs phrasing etc.
if each are individual phrases..

Women and the Chopin Competition: Breaking Barriers in Classical Music

The piano, a sleek monument of polished wood and ivory keys, holds a curious, often paradoxical, position in music history, especially for women. While offering a crucial outlet for female expression in societies where opportunities were often limited, it also became a stage for complex gender dynamics, sometimes subtle, sometimes stark. From drawing-room whispers in the 19th century to the thunderous applause of today’s concert halls, the story of women and the piano is a narrative woven with threads of remarkable progress and stubbornly persistent challenges.
