How to approach a twelve-tone piece?
on: June 02, 2015, 09:53:08 PM
Hi there, people!
I was wondering how to approach the study of this atonal piece I'm into. There are certain parts which I found really difficult to remember, specifically the following one:
Do I need to have previous knowledge on the twelve-tone system? Any advice on how to retain all those intervals?
Thanks a lot in advance!!
(Btw, the piece in question is the piano introduction to "Little house I used to live in" by Frank Zappa)

This piece isn't using 12 tone techniques (like serialism), so study of that won't help here (whatever it's other uses).
Can't assist with the memory thing. My own solution is to keep it written down.
