Here in Arizona, it's starting on prime gardening season. Actually the first time gardeners here rouse themselves from the summer doldrums is to plant wildflower seeds in October. You have to water them for about a week after sowing, then just sit back and forget where you put them until they start coming up in January. By March, look out!
Right now I'm waiting for my winter veggies, mainly broccoli and brussels sprouts. I'm the only one that likes the little sprouts, but they are so funny to grow that I always plant way too much. I also have geraniums in pots all over the patio, and lots of people have petunias and pansies growing as well. I have to watch what I plant in the ground because we have a lot of critters that will come in and decimate everything overnight.
I'm in the process of converting an annual bed that became a feedlot for our javelinas. I'm going to turn it into a butterfly garden if all goes according to plan.
Strawberries, summer herbs, tomatoes all go into the ground in late February or early March. The sooner the better for the berries and tomatoes, because you want to have the longest growing season possible before the sun scorches them to death.
Funny how our gardening is so different!
