Modern repertoire suggestions?
on: June 14, 2015, 08:48:31 PM
HELP!  My music teacher wants me to add modern repertoire, as I have been gravitating to Mozart, Chopin and Liszt.  He suggested Tchereprin bagatelles, but I find these unappealing.  I am an adult student who choices my own repertoire for lessons, with some guidance.

Criteria, I am not a fan of dissonance, but he is !
I have found the following I really like, but other composer/pieces as recommendations would be appreciated.

John Cage- Oceans

Lecuona- Malaguana
Clive Richardson-  London Fantasia

Try Kapustin- sonatina op100 and the Jazz preludes op53, concert etudes are harder. I'm also looking at Antonio Taurellio tocatta. n.Delo Joio suite for piano and preludes of Ginastera.

Hi Dogperson,

Unless you are preparing for piano competitions or are enrolled in a conservatory/music school, I don't see why you can't opt out of modern repertoire.

This item might be appealing:

And there is Schoenberg's Op. 11:

And Copland's Passacaglia:
