Chopin Op.48 No.1
on: June 19, 2015, 04:27:08 AM
I'm playing this Nocturne and I'm struggling on the Dopplio Movemento part. Any advice? (And yes, Spelling Kings, I spelled that wrong)

Hi,
I started this a couple of months ago, and am making better than expected progress!
The way I learnt it was to start with slow hands separate work, working out the fingering very early on, and working in short sections. Then I memorised both hands separately (this was really helpful for the later work...)
Only once this was done did I move to hands together work, again starting slowly, and working in sections...
I also did quite a lot of work on the melody line of the RH - working out the shaping/dynamics, and playing (with the correct fingering) against the LH.
Because of the HS work I'd done, it fitted together pretty easily, although there were/are a few tricky sections that I needed to take out and work on (e.g. 3rd line from the bottom of the final page).
Hopefully some of that will help - it's a stunning piece, so worth persevering through the pain!

But how about the 2:3 and 3:4 polyrythyms? It seems easy but it's actually very complicated
And btw, if someone tells me to play one of the easier nocturnes, guess what? I've played and mastered basically every nocturne, besides Op.9 No.3 and the Op.62 nocturnes, which are as hard as Op.48 No.1.
