Jazz influenced composers and compositions
on: June 25, 2015, 12:06:12 AM
Hey,

I love Gershiwn Piano Concerto and his Rhapsody in Blue, Rachmaninoff's Symphonic Dances and Ravel Piano Concerto... All influenced by jazz. Can you recommend me compositions and composers influenced by jazz too?

I have become enamored with Ernesto Lecuona, a Cuban composer and contemporary of Gershwin.  Supposedly, Gershwin stated Lecuona gave the best performance of Rhapsody in Blue.  A link is below to two of his compositions played by Lecuona, but there is a lot more on YouTube if you have any interest.

Gulda prelude and fuue ( this is --to me at least --instantly recognizable as based on Johnny Bach's famous prelude and fugue in C wtc I )

I'm very fond of Leszek Mozdzer's CD, Chopin Demain, on Opus 111. Very imaginative "takes" on various Chopin pieces that I think most would enjoy. Unfortunately, I don't know how to post any of the tracks (there might be some on Youtube: isn't everything?) If anyone does investigate, I'd be curious to hear their opinion.
