    I just found out that he supposedly wrote his Op.21 Romances to fund his trip to Italy (he just got married), writing one a day until they were finished.

What an inconceivably astounding and badass thing to do in general.

Welcome to the forum!  Yes, is is a great story about Rach's  compositions.  I always try to find a lille about the context of compositions I love to listen to  or play, and have uncovered many of these tidbits that give me more appreciation for the music .

Mahler's 'adagietto' was written as a proposal to his fiance.  He sent it to her, she recognized the reason and accepted.. love that one!   Read about Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue' and you will be impressed...
