A little puzzled on some fingering.
on: July 13, 2015, 05:51:09 PM
Hi guys,

No such thing as a stupid question, right?

<crickets>

Right, guys? Riiiiiight?

Anyway! I'm a little puzzled by some fingering. It is a simple piece, and I've already begun practising my own method, but I just wanted to make sure I'm doing this more or less right. Any suggestions for how you would play the following segment? (I'm only concerned with how my right hand should be played. Left is straight forward.)

This is what I'm currently going with, but I'm not sure if it is best:

Lost Woods huh? It's

4 3 4 3   4 3 4 3   |   4 3 4 3   5 4 4 5 4  |  5
2 1 2 1   2 1 2 1   |   2 1 2 1   3 2 1 2 1  |  2

You 912.2 points for guessing that. You marvelous, awesome person you.
Oh, and a bonus 1000 points for the fingering. Thank you! :D

I really do appreciate it. I'm unsure of the general 'stance' around here for video game music, but whilst I enjoy just about any genre, piano renditions of some of my favourite video game themes are what really inspired me to want to play the piano in the first place.

Thanks again. :)

I was just about to ask if it was Lost Woods XD
Did you get it from here?
For fingering, you could land on the second set of thirds with 3/5 to 2/4, if you want.

Can I ask how you came up with this suggestion.. and I am only asking because fingering is a big weakness for me.  I would now use 5-3 and then 4-2 so that two chords would not be played with the same fingering .  Until recently, I would have done what you suggested, but my new teacher frowns on this so I am trying to adapt and I have zero confidence about my choices.  My other thought ? is that if you 5-3 and then 4-2, your hand might be better positioned to move up.  Thanks in advance.

Students not doing concert repertoire might find the 35 42 fingering a little harder to control. I'd probably recommend 24-13, 24-13 as being easier than 24-13, 53-24. Helps keep the staccato's even in touch.

I'm trying to answer but all I can think is that my fingering works. When you end up on the staccato third with 3-1, your hand bounces off and up to the next 4-2 third. It's really comfortable and easy if you try it a few times.

-After I made that post I checked the officially-published Zelda book and it uses 4-2 3-1 all the way up too.

Thanks much for checking the original, as well as providing your thought process.  I really learn best by knowing 'why'
