Satie: piano pieces
on: July 16, 2015, 04:32:50 PM
Hi there,

After playing a lot of Blues and Jazz, I moved to playing classical music.I played some minuets by Bach.  I love Chopin, but I could only play Prelude nr. 4 and 7 and the waltz in A minor. So I went to learning Satie. I have played all the Gnoessienes and Gymnopedies. And I am learning the three danses de Travers right now. What other pieces of Satie do you recommend me? I really love his eccentric way of composing.

since you like Satie... do you know of Faure?

you may like this, too---it's Faure himself playing his pavane op. 50--well from a piano roll anyway...

IMO it contains one of the most beautiful and haunting melodies ever written.

here's Bill Evans doing his thing with it.

hope you enjoy  ;D

yes I know...  apologies.  ;D    my students often asked for more pieces like the gymno's and though this isn't really like that--often times they would pick the Fuare after playing the satie--they don't have anything substantial in common--but I thought maybe you would like to hear it.  Plus--it meant I could post a Bill Evans vid on pianostreet.  that's always a plus.
