A Piano Street Ratings Query
on: July 28, 2015, 11:48:52 PM
So, I am working on two pieces simultaneously, I started Chopin's Etude Op. 10 no 3 when that was mostly in hand I recently began working on Scriabin's Etude Op. 2 no 1. The Chopin Etude has taken me quite a while to get a handle on (It still needs polishing) but I found that Scriabin's Etude was quite easy. I would consider it much easier that Chopin's etude, yet PianoStreet rates the Chopin etude as a 8 and the Scriabin etude an 8+. Is it just me or doesn't that seem a little strange. I feel like whoever was rating Scriabin's Etude 2 1, just gave it an 8+ rating like all of his other work..... Any thoughts?

Just don't trust the dang piano street ratings. They are horrible, inaccurate, and if you can't figure the difficulty of a piece yourself, you probably shouldn't be trying to play it.

That said, if you absolutely NEED ratings, use G. Henle Verlag. Although they are not perfect (everyone is different), they are the best ratings I've found.
