Video: Chopin Prelude in A Major Opus 28 No. 7
on: August 03, 2015, 02:58:39 PM
Hi all, I'm new to these forums.
It is with quite a bit of trepidation that I submit this simple little piece for review. Please be gentle. Also I'm aware that it's a bit dark, that is fixed in future videos.
Anyway, here it is.

Very sensitive rendering of a Chopin "haiku"… Perhaps a bit slower than I might… but the tempo certainly works.. like a stroll though a rose garden… Very nice.

Thank you very much theme!
I tend to be slower with my tempos and I don't really care that much exactly what the markings are, I play tempo however I feel will get the best expression. Thanks again theme

Yes, it does 'come off' that you are committed fully to its expressive possibilities …
The only part that took me a bit out of it's spell was how you handled the roll on the f# 7 chord…. perhaps the starting lh chord there just a tad too loud? and/or maybe the roll could start slightly faster and then slow a bit towards the top?.. (some apply the roll to the whole chord, or not roll at all, but that is another matter..) ..But I feel this criticism is nit-picky..and I really enjoyed it...

I think you have a point theme. Perhaps I got carried away by an effect I liked but perhaps the details of that bit could've been tighter. Thanks again

This tempo works how you play it, but it might benefit from a slightly faster tempo.
Also, the big diminished chord- don't roll it super slow, it just kills the effect :/ Rolling it is fine, but you played it like it was a line of slow eight notes.
Still, this is pretty good. Keep at it!

Thanks for looking at it chopinlover, I appreciate it.
I stand by the tempo, but I can imagine it done well faster, your comment is fair though.
I also know I took a risk doing the roll that way, perhaps I could've done it a little better but I thought I saw an opportunity to do something interesting and a little different so I took it. I believe in trying to do that sort of thing, even if sometimes people don't like it.
