Suggestions please (Schumann's carnival)
on: August 06, 2015, 01:23:15 PM
Hi,
I recently learned the piece 'Chopin' from the carnival suite by Schumann:
------
I am looking to learn some similar pieces around the same difficulty that perhaps are a bit longer that have the same lyrical quality or style.
I already play other similar things like:
kinderszenen by Schumann
Chopin's nocturnes
Consolation no.3 by Liszt
Liebestraum by Liszt
Mendelssohn - Songs without Words Op. 19 No. 1
I am sure to be overlooking lots of great pieces and I want to expand my repertoire..(pieces like Liebestraum take forever for me to learn).
Thanks.

I don't know where to start... Perhaps more Chopin, things like maybe Ballade No. 3 (It would be a stretch but musically you would have good motivation) or A few preludes like Raindrop or Op. 45 in C sharp minor. Maybe some Schubert like Impromptu No. 3 of the first set in G flat Major, very lyrical if that's what you're after. Would you consider some Beethoven? If you want something longer maybe a sonata like the Pathetique.
