Babes of Piano Calendar
on: December 20, 2004, 02:16:24 AM
Okay, I'll start off saying this is not original - I got the idea from another unamed forum.    But, on that forum, the poster had all 12 months already slated.  I'd like to know what others think.  So, I'll start with my personal favorite  and give her January - Olga Kern.  I saw her perform last spring and was totally awestruck.   So, who would you choose to fill the spreads for the other 11 months?

Since there doesn't seem to be any interest in equal time for the men,  I have, alas, sent Mr. Anderszewski back to the web. (Sigh!)

Oh, this is outrageous!  How insulting to women! tsk tsk tsk

Of course, when it's finished I will need a complete copy to peruse to find out how outraged and insulted I am in the privacy of my own home.  ::)

How dare you I say!  How could you?  How could you fill up a calendar like that with pianists?  Really!  I can't really think of any professional female pianists that would be considered "knockouts."  Maybe it would be a one-month calendar.  I don't know a whole lot of performers though either, so.... maybe I'm looking in the wrong places.  You could fill a "Babes" of the Piano calendar quite easily if it were supposed to be more of a joke.

I was also wondering what's this doing in the "Performance" board?   ;)

I wouldn't be interested in a Studs of the Piano calendar, but I have heard the idea that male performers can have an easier time getting an audience because rich women with time on hands may fill the audience. :o

Olga Kern.... yes... Is that a current picture?  Is she still alive?

This may sound nerdy, but I would actually be interested in a "Piano" Calendar -- just different pictures of pianos for each month, no people included.

You're in, Tash.  Where's the picture? ;)

How about this duo:  Duo Hamel Sanchez.  Elena Hamel, the one toward the back is the sweetheart of another forum.  They *are* a dynamic duo and not  too hard on the eyes.

Bob, Olga Kern is alive and well.  I don't think she's hit 30 yet.  She was the co-gold medal winner at the last Van Kliburn.  She is actually much more beautiful on stage.  She's very lithe and willowy, she interacts with the crowd with coy glances and smiles, and she has the most beautiful gowns, which she changes at intermission.

Sharon, studs are always welcome, but I think women in piano have traditionally gotten short shrift.  They *need* the boost.

What's the matter with a piano hunks calendar too?

And equally - what's the matter with making money?  I think this has commercial potential - if it hasn''t been done...

Could also attract teens to the field - show them classical musicnas can be cool,  a form of advertising.

ooo  Nadia Cole is interesting.

I don't think we need a Hunks of the Piano calendar.  No interest in that.

I found a site on Helene G.  She looks very different in many pictures.  Disappointing how much different she looked.  I still smile when I see these pic's of her though.(sigh)  The search continues...

I bet people would accuse women of selling out if a calendar like that was actually made.  Selling "sizzle" instead of the substance of the music.  It's still an interesting idea to imagine classical music as commericial and popular as something like American Idol though.

How about our very own Elena Hammel... :)

She truly is beautfiful in the most classic sense; no sexy gowns or seductive poses needed to drive the point home.  She gets my vote for calendar girl of the year.
