on: September 10, 2015, 12:12:15 PM
Hey guys.
This piece isn't 100%, clearly evident at 3:19, however overall, what do you guys think? any tips to improve? I'll be playing this piece as part of my audition into university. All comments welcomed. Thanks.

I should preface this by saying that I'm fairly unfamiliar with Rachmaninoff but I'll try to help if I can.

Mostly it seemed fairly good, perhaps some more variety when you play the recurring elements would be good. I didn't notice the mistakes much so I'd say you did a good job keeping the forward momentum going for the most part. I think the piece as a whole needs more contrasts and just needs to be a bit more engaging but overall you're doing quite well.

Oh and is it a tad under tempo? It seems like it might be, can you check and get back to me?

I'm sorry it has taken so long for someone to reply.

I would suggest increasing the drama by a more heavy use of accents and variation in dynamics.  I particularly like this recording

nice job  ;D  I am seeing that there is something just a little tiny bit stiff in your technique..  your hands look trained but there is something that is not yet totally fluid in your moves      I think you will be able to add the drama you are looking for by loosening up just a bit..  and I am sure it will happen in due time.  You have a predominant  "claw-like" shape to your fingers which is more prominent at times in the LH than the right.

this is great though :) very impressive piece.

I would write a review but it seems that OP doesn't reply so I guess it is not worth the time (maybe he was just collecting YT clicks)?

Sorry for the extremely late reply, as i have stopped using this forum, and have not checked since, but thank you all for taking your time to reply, you have all given me some insight to improve for my future endeavours.

On a side note, i got admitted into my conservatory of choice, and this was one of the piece i auditioned with.

Once again, i do apologise, and thank you all.
