How to read a couple of notes
on: September 24, 2015, 07:55:41 PM
Hi There
I hope someone can help me with a problem I have in Chopin Ballade Opus 47.
Please look at the picture I have enclosed.
In the first bar in the left hand there is 2 "G"-notes with a "b" in front of it, it means it is played as "Gb".
So far so good. In bar 3 the "G" is again occuring in the left hand.
My question is: Is this "G" played as a "G" or as "Gb"?
Thanks in advance

It's a G natural, the flat goes away at the end of the measure, unless it is in the key signature. In this case it is not in the key signature, so it is simply played as a G natural.
Just as a caution, this piece is very difficult. I'm not saying you shouldn't play it, just take a look at the C sharp minor section first.

Thanks for your answer. I absolutely do agree with you, it is a difficult
piece of music to learn how to play.
Best wishes
