Chopin Sonata no.3 op. 58 Finale
on: October 02, 2015, 06:52:23 PM
Anyone have some tips for when you revisit the main theme for the 3rd and final time? I'm getting tension and stiffness in my left forearm when I try to add speed. I plan on getting a teacher at some point but with my current situation, I don't think it would be fair to me or my teacher. So anyone have suggestions for me in the meantime?

you need to release unnecessary tension anywhere in your body except the fingers.  the best way i can describe and i saw instructed in a good masterclass years ago, is you grab an orange or other round fruit, small ball, etc.
then wiggle your arm about and relax the arm and shoulder completely but hold enough tension in the fingers to keep from dropping the orange.
that's about the level of balance between relaxed vs tension/shape you're looking for - for the most part.

get a teacher.
it's said that he who teaches himself, has a fool for a teacher. there's a lot of truth to that.
