www.sorabji-files.com down?
on: October 03, 2015, 12:13:59 AM
It appears that the website www.sorabji-files.com isn't online anymore. This is unfortunate since there were a few sample recordings of his music that I couldn't find anywhere else, along with other miscellaneous information. Does anyone know if the site will be up in the future, or if it has been taken down for good?

It does not seem to be down in the technical sense:

Code: [Select]
HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Date: Sat, 03 Oct 2015 13:10:25 GMT
Server: Apache
Last-Modified: Sat, 31 Jan 2015 18:39:28 GMT
Accept-Ranges: bytes
Content-Length: 0
Content-Type: text/html

It's returning HTTP 200, which is status OK, just returning zero payload. If it was really gone it would return HTTP 404. Perhaps it's undergoing maintenance. I could be wrong of course.

There were numerous permissions issues and that is why nothing now returns on that site. Quite of few of the recordings originally put there were and still are available commercially and some are of works that wilol be commercially recorded.

It is probably down due to lack of use.

No. It's down due to the reaons that I gave above - and I do happen to know that for a fact, if you'll pardon my saying so.

That, if I may say so, is a contradiction in terms; if the site wasn't being sufficiently used, the permissions problem would not have been as great as was the case.

I don't wish to pull rank here but whilst I do know what the permissions issues were do you know how much use the site had or are you merely guessing without evidence?

I see. That's unfortunate. Does this mean that Powell will record the OC soon (since the sample recordings of him playing were on there)?

Those samples are also on Jonathan's own website; see https://jonathanpowell.wordpress.com/recordings/ .

Although a commercial recording of OC by Jonathan is not curretly in prospect, his Sorabji recording plans represent the very opposite of laziness! No more detail for now, but watch this and other spaces for a lot of news!...

I would rather hope he records more romantics like Eiges than waste time with plinkers.

He will record what he wants to record, some of which might appeal to you and others of which might not.

Thank you, but the hosting site for those files (rapidshare) has been down for a while, so the links don't work anymore.

That's good to hear! I saw the thread about recording the Sequentia cyclica a day or two ago. Can't wait to see (and hear) what is to come.
