Chopin's 3rd.

Of course. I don't get how some people can prefer the 2nd...

Violin Sonata in A (Cesar Frank)
Cello Sonata (Chopin)

Love these, but with the Franck I'd rather hear the cello version...

I prefer the 2nd, but I like neither. The 2nd has more beauitufl spots, but the 4th movement is TERRIBLE. Not even LISZT can write that bad ::)

There is certainly a musical reason behind his writing such a movement... :/

Yeah how did you know? Want to know something even weirder? I'm listening to Rafal Blechacz play Chopin's third sonata! Rarer than a blue moon!

You know what I would bet money that if this was composed by Glazunov or Medtner, visitor and the gang would be all over it. But NO! They want to be different and don't want to associate with us lowlifes. I challenge visitor to listen to the theme at 26 seconds pretending like it was Kosenko or Borodin you were listening to. And maybe with your unbiased view you will understand my Chopin obsession.

Lol I agree. Not just with Chopin, but with any composer they call "overrated". IMO, Kosenko's Concerto is ugly and not nearly as powerful as the Grieg Concerto. (Heck, it's not even as good as SCHUMANN's Concerto!) It sounds like Kosenko is trying to imitate the genius of Chopin, but the thing is, almost no one but Liszt can imitate Chopin well. Most other attempts will be failures .Including Kosenko's.

Yes at least the Schumann has a thing called a melody...
The Kosenko starts out with some abortive sequences and passage work; that's fine if you're in the middle of a concerto- but to introduce a work like that??

It receives a standing abortion.

I love the theme of the 1st movement, but the rest is not as good as some other Concertos.

OMG THAT SCHUMANN THEME IS AMASZING! It's the opposite with Chopin's Concerto 2. The theme sucks (until you reach the level of sophistication when you can appreciate the beauty in it), but the rest is... OMG

That Schumann rest of it is basically the pianist doing weird things without for a purpose. Schumann could've actually wrote some runs if he wanted the pianist to be busy ::)

*never really have been of the opinion (regarding chatter upstairs) that Fred is not skilled or the music not lovely in some ways. Quite the contrary, I acknowledge the skill and construction, just it's not my particular flavor/style.  Also more than anything, I just grew tired of it over time as I completed my first round of advanced study at music school.

regarding any instrument, I tend to gravitate to the mellower sound of the Cello or Viola on the string side (and trombone and tuba/euphonium for winds).

lately I really like Viola sonatas, and this one by Vasilenko  8) is really growing on me (the btw Bowen wrote a super fly viola work)

as for Kosenko, it's jiggy in my book so that's all that matters to me. I know what I like and what I find interesting so I don't waste time trying to find merit in something grew bored of or simply can't stand listening to more than a few bars (btw i've always said I like the Chopin Mazurkas as far as the solo piano stuff). I think i'll go listen to that Kosenko concerto again.

You'll probably appreciate the theme of the Chopin 2 if you get dumped or something idk #sadboyz

I actually thought most of the Chopin 2 was meaningless fillers, especially the 1st movement. The 2nd movement is beautiful though and 3rd movement is interesting and "exotic" lol
