[VIDEO] JS Bach: Notebook for Wilhelm Friedemann Bach
on: October 05, 2015, 12:24:35 AM
Along my journey through the Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach in my other thread here, I have decided to work on another of the total of 3 Notebooks Bach made. This one he made for his oldest son Wilhelm Friedemann Bach.

It contains many of Bachs famous pieces. Many of the Little Preludes, short suites, menuets, allamandes, earlier versions of preludes from Das Wohltemperierte Clavier Book 1 and all the inventions and sinfonias. It starts with an odd little fragmented piece which is an 8 bar piece which is almost never recorded or performed, so I am happy to do the work for any lazy keyboard performer who doesnt perform this piece. Its Bach so its equally important and worthwhile anything else he composed.

This piece is also 1 of 2 pieces to my knowledge which have Bachs own fingering in the manuscript. The strange 3 finger crossing over 4th finger baroque style as well.

2nd piece is the notebook to Wilhelm Friedemann Bach. What I like about this that is seems to collect many of Bachs own favorite keyboard pieces composed before 1722 into this book which is also sorted in order of complexety. Starting with Little Preludes through earlier versions of the preludes in Das Wohltemperierte Klavier and then finishing the notebook with 2 and 3 part inventions.

A good reason for me to play the whole thing as an educational tool, before I jump on the French Suites.
