I think Kate has a good chance if she plays like she did in Round 2 consistently.

Kate, Eric, Cho are good contenders, Kate a little less so since her playing is rather "individualistic." Hamelin is not the most "marketable" contestant, (when it comes to stage presence).but he could probably win. Shishkin could too, but they are probably looking for deeper players.

Who will not win the Chopin competition? Probably Aimi (sorry Pencilart)... Her playing is unfortunately somewhat sloppy (only somewhat, but it makes it hard to enjoy some pieces, e.g. her Barcarolle and op. 53. She did pull herself together in the op. 45 though.) It's also not very consistent; perhaps if she plays everything in the 3rd round as refined and consistently as her op. 45, she could win it.
Not Tony because he's waaaay too young (he's a high school senior!) and again prolly not deep enough.
Not Carroccia- inconsistent...
Who else is really worth mentioning? tbh they're all "nice" players, but only a few play with exceptional level of detail, spiritual depth; only a handful play with "personal touches" while still connecting to the audience (e.g. Kate)...

Seong-jin Cho or Eric Lu. Maybe Kate Liu.

And maybe the other people, but I haven't heard them play, soo I cant say.

I don't think the judges will give the prize to an American, though.

Yeah when they kicked Ivett Gyongyosi Olof Hansen out,  I realized this was not a beauty contest.

Yeah, but the judges wont give the prize to an AMERICAN.

Why?

Because they made the mistake of giving a prestigious European prize to Van Cliburn, and now they believe that America owes them. So they will not give the prize to an American,. even if they deserve it.

Eric Lu deserves it.

But he's not just American, he's CHINESE American. That doubles the trouble. If he was a Chinese, he might win, and if he was an American with a nice pro-sounding name (such as Eric ZUBER), he has a chance, but when you add an American first name with a Chinese/Korean last name together, it's double trouble.

So that's why I think Seong-jin Cho will win, even though I like Eric Lu.

Just listened to Galina Chistiakova's Chopin op. 42 :O it's so noble and aristocratic! there are few sharp edges in her playing... and the Waltz rhythm is so well-controlled in the left hand! Perhaps she could win, or at least go into the finals, for her unique style...

Yeah... sonata 2, a scherzo that I've listened to a ton lately, the STUPID RONDO OP. 16, and a mazurka set I don't like that much. ??? ??? ???

Which scherzo is that and which mazurkas are those ;D
The Rondo op. 16 is a good piece if it's played well (e.g. by Fei Fei Dong in the 2010 Chopin and 2013 Cliburn)! And the melody is actually quite charming!

At least most of the well-liked famous pianists are from some Russian Conservatories....

Name one pianist from Juillard, BESIDES THE TERRIBLE CLIBURN, who was more celebrated than..... ummm....... Kissin, Trifonov, etc.

Emmanuel Ax is not one of them, even though he is pretty famous.

what the freak

Le musique russe est plus elegante. Brahms, Beethoven, Faure..... Ils ne sont pas elegant.

But yeah, my new teacher is from Russia, and a lot of her concerts feature Ravel :P
